Great Frigatebirds

Great Frigatebirds:  Males have red, inflatable skin sack on neck for courtship.  Both male and female frigatebirds tend to chicks.

Red Footed Booby:  Only booby that nests in trees.  Fewer than 3% of all Red Footed Boobies have White-Morph feathers.  Fish 40 miles or more from land.

Nazca Booby:  Nests on the ground.  Pant like dogs to reduce heat.

Brown Booby:  Rare to spot, nests on the ground.

Blue Footed Booby:  Nests on the ground.  Perform intricate dance with feet during courtship.  Dives for fish from up to 100 feet high.

Swallow Tailed Gull:  Common gull, fish for squid at night.  Ring around eye allows them to see in infrared in complete darkness.

Medium Ground Finch:  Eats seeds and lives primarily on ground.  Between sizes of Large and Small Ground Finches.

Whimbrel:  Shore bird that primarily eats ocean invertebrates.

Yellow Warbler:  Eats mostly insects, occasionally feeds on berries.

Brown Pelican:  Dives for fish close to shore, tends to live near cliffs.

Galapagos Penguin:  Live on rocks near shore and eat fish.  Tend to be found in cooler waters of the Galapagos.

Short Eared Owl:  Well camouflaged, tends to live near cliffs where shorebirds congregate.  Eats small birds and chicks.

Galapagos Mockingbird:  Aggressive bird that feeds on lizards, chicks, and insects.  Bold around humans.

Galapagos Hawk:  Small hawk that feeds primarily on seabirds and chicks.

Galapagos Dove:  Often seen around cactuses, eats mostly seeds.

Red Billed Tropicbird:  Live in rocks and on cliffs, feed on squid and fish.

Yellow Crowned Heron:  Stalk the rocky shores feeding on fish, crabs, insects, and mollusks.

Galapagos Flycatcher:  Bold and curious, often approach around humans.  Skilled aviators, can fly from their perch to pluck insects from the air at great speed.
